Native Plant Inspiration Garden Tour

$0.00

Friday, June 21st
4-8 PM
Ages: 18 years and older

When you hear the terms water-wise gardening or xeriscaping, do you immediately think of a drab landscape composed of gravel or mulch, a couple of ornamental grasses, and maybe a yucca?

Think again! Utah is blessed with many gorgeous native plants that are extremely xeric once established. This Inspiration Garden tour is focused on four garden spaces that are habitats for wildlife, native bees, monarch butterflies, and birds, using a mix of native perennials that use very little water, along with other non-native perennial plantings and shrubs that attract pollinators of all kinds. You will also see examples of different water features in the landscape (which is a critical component for a pollinator habitat). The third garden on tour will show you a unique way to incorporate vegetable gardening with pollinator-friendly plants.

Please note that because these garden spaces were created to provide habitat for pollinators, you may see brush and leaf piles, some weeds, and the space may look a bit “wild”. Don’t expect perfectly manicured lawns with tidy borders to keep the perennials contained–we love to let our native plants spread! We encourage you to come with an open mind on the possibilities that can be created when you start thinking “habitat” rather than a traditional flower garden.
